About The Show
The Charleston Home + Outdoor Living Festival will take place April 22 & 23 at the Volvo Car Stadium on Daniel Island. This annual event has been revamped to make it fun for the whole family. You’ll be able to enjoy booths from fantastic local Lowcountry A-List home and design professionals plus so much more! This year we will have a Craft Beer Garden, live music, a kids’ zone (where parents can drop off to be supervised and entertained with crafts by Annie’s Nannies for a small fee), a showcase of Daniel Island’s top businesses, chef demonstrations, and the Charleston Animal Society will be there!
In addition to this exciting entertainment lineup, our famous Daniel Island Luxury Home Tour will take place Saturday, April 22 from 1-5pm. This must-see showcase will allow you to walk through some of the finest homes in the area and talk with the professionals who put these dream homes together.

A recent study published by the National Association of Realtors maintains that inground swimming pool installations can increase the value of homes from 8 percent to as much as 15 percent. There are some variations by region: In the Southeast the increase in value ranges from 5 to 10 percent, while in the Southwest this ranges from 8 to 13 percent. In addition, in the northern areas, the increase in value range is an average of 6 percent.
If you live in a hot climate, it is most likely a plus.

After the Storm Tips
The work is not over after the storm, especially if there is a power outage.
Here are some tips from Lee County Emergency Management Services to maintain the water quality of your pool:
Clear all debris from the water.
Add chlorine, such as 10 percent sodium hypochlorite granules called “shock,” to super chlorinate the water. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and maintain the super-chlorinated state until the electricity is restored.
Do not allow anyone into the super-chlorinated water.
Be sure everything is dry before dealing with electrical startup. Check your circuit breakers to be sure they are off before attempting to reconnect electrical equipment such as pump motors. Inspect the wiring (especially ground wires) for proper connections. Be sure you are following manufacturers’ instructions when reactivating equipment. If electric motors have been exposed to water, they should be checked by a competent professional.

Winterizing Your Pool
The #1 enemy: freezing.
When water freezes, it expands with enormous force. It’s the force that breaks up highways, splits garden hoses, explodes beverage cans in your freezer, and it’s the force that expands and cracks pool pipes, filters, pumps and skimmer baskets. If you are closing up your pool for the winter, you should always take precautions to protect from freeze damage no matter where you live—even pool owners in the South have learned, to their regret, that freezing temperatures are an ever-present risk.
- Be good to your pump and heater.
- No water in the pipes = no freeze damage.
- Clean the filter.
- Your final freeze insurance: the flotation device.
- The winter cover.
- Time for storage.

Remove rope and floats from pool and put with the rest of the supplies. Store any dive board and ladders in the shed or garage, with your pump and filter. Store your dive bolts or ladder bumpers in the pump basket. If you have a sand filter, just leave it outside.
